How F2F Works

In the first phase of the F2F program, a family in Tigray will receive US$100 per month. The average size of one family in Tigray is estimated at 5 persons/household. Donors participating in the F2F program commit to contribute US$100/month to support one family. This amounts to US$20/person/month or US$0.67/person/day, which represents one third of the US$1.90 minimum per day that the World Bank recommends for one person’s survival. This amount is not meant to cover all of the family’s financial needs but is rather aimed at complementing the family’s resources and efforts. At this juncture, F2F support is meant to help the recipient families’ survive and find some financial stability amidst an ongoing war and looming famine.

TARGET RECIPIENT FAMILIES

The target population for F2F financial support are families that are not assisted by the mainstream emergency aid agencies and are the worst   affected by the war. Although the F2F program will support families across Tigray that require assistance, priority will be given to war-affected   populations in each zone who are unable to access food aid and do not have the means to farm during the coming season. F2F will target for   help families with no apparent help, whether from aid agencies or their families.

PRINCIPAL DONORS

To raise the funds necessary to run the F2F program and ensure as wide a reach as possible, F2F engages with Tigrayans in the diaspora and other   parts of Ethiopia, friends of  Tigray everywhere, foundations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other relevant institutions

MODALITIES OF PARTICIPATION

F2F targets entire families for support rather than individuals so as to ensure the survival of family units as a whole and thus a faster and more   complete recovery of the Tigrayan society. F2F aims to avoid fragmented initiatives and duplication of efforts that specifically target segments of a   family (children, women, disabled, etc.). This enhances family and community cohesiveness while allowing F2F a wider reach across the affected   population in a cost effective manner.

Donors may choose to support more than one family per month. By the same token, donors who cannot commit to US$100/month may (1) (continued from previous page)  specify any amount that they can commit to, which F2F will then pool with other donors’ contributions to jointly support one family or (2) join   resources with family and/or friends to directly support one family.

While F2F requires a commitment of at six months in which donors would ideally be prepared to provide support to the war-affected families   until the families survive the ongoing humanitarian crisis and start to recover.
